As an Apple Teacher, I accompanied the students in this activity as they created their healthy food plate, learning about healthy eating and using technology at the same time.
K3A preschool students held a mini-picnic in the classroom. Each student was in charge of bringing a food item from the four food groups. After creating their healthy food plate, the students worked in pairs and recorded themselves using their iPad cameras. In their video, the students described and explained how they created their healthy food plate. After creating the video, the students used the Clips app to edit it and make it fun. After finishing their video, each video was presented to the rest of the class.
Through this activity, students achieved:
Use digital media to create and narrate a new idea to present healthy eating
Express and promote ideas to present them in different applications
They acquired skills such as:
problem-solving by discerning and choosing between good and bad eating habits
digital creativity by using and learning to design with a new Clips app
Digital literacy by becoming familiar with the app and iPad commands
The product reflected learning about healthy eating, and at the same time, they practiced digital skills by expressing the expected learnings from the first challenge and applying them in daily life by explaining through video and using the camera and the Clips app. They reinforced vocabulary, good habits, and digital skills.
