Spike loves talking with elementary school students about service animals, adaptive sports and cool technology that people with disabilities use!
Hi, my name is Peter Quinn, and I work for the Northeast ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Center at Cornell University. We have been producing a “Disneyfied” animated/cartoon series to educate students in kindergarten through 5th grades about a variety of aspects about disability. We all have talents and disabilities; they might just look different. Spike takes us on location and interviews people with disabilities!
We have been working with a variety of school districts as we test/launch the series. There is also a short companion curriculum and activity guide on our website. The videos and resources are free. We’d love to hear how you might use the materials as it’s helpful for us in issuing reports to our funder and helping us create more targeted materials in the future.
Topics areas: Intro to Disability, All About Service Animals, Sports and Recreation, Accessible Video Gaming, Working with a Disability, Using Cool Technology and Different Ways to Communicate.
