I'm always looking for authentic ways to weave our digital learning through out the day and into different curriculum areas.
This Keynote resource for Term 4 will focus on looking at the weather. It will be used in Literacy and Maths learning each day this term. We will begin by co constructing the weekly weather and then analysing it for our writing at the beginning of our Literacy time everyday. Often the forecast is written in fragments or phases with the meaning being implied instead of being explicit because of the context.
My Year 2 and 3 students will collaborate each week to review simple sentences ( Statement, Command, Question and Exclamation), and compound sentences. We will be also learning about complex sentences and all the new weather related vocabulary as this is a requirement for my Year 3 students as part of the new curriculum.
During our maths warm up we will be expanding our usual calendar learning to have the additional weekly weather forecast. To begin with, we will be looking at, and graphing in Numbers the daily high and low temperatures. As with all new curriculum changes there are many areas to cover across the days, weeks and terms. Having a 'little bit often' and coming back to our learning each day for around 10 to 15 minutes should cut down on the cognitive load and help my students to focus on the Literacy and Maths content, while making connections to real life everyday events.
