Learning with iPad - My Heritage Video Planning and Resources on Freeform

Context

I have always wanted a way where I could pull images, videos, sounds etc into a common document that is also my infinite canvas to order them into a a timeline, storyboard, concepts etc. That way, there is no need to search multiple folders and locations just so I can explore and present a narrative. So I wanted to take the tech away as much as possible to focus on the human story.

Preparation and Flow

Using a recent field trip, I realise in my discussion with fellow educators how we could work together to pull the story of migration in a single Freeform board. Hence to begin:

  • Have a Freeform board created
  • Share it with the students
  • Put in a title and arrange the key ideas spatially
  • Next, either use this board to plan and get out there to find resources, or
  • Drag and drop your resources like images and videos from the Photos app over to the Freeform Board

Now you can view not just your planning, but play the media right in it

Possible Extension

Using this collaboratively is great, just make sure you share it with anyone with the link option. Note that to use Freeform collaboratively, you will need to allow Freeform access to iCloud (in other words, do sign into your Apple ID.

Agree Thomas! Freeform is an amazing way to archive, collect and share in a history class or with heritage information or field trip documentation.

I work a lot with primary sources and found that using Freeform to tie them together in the story of Early Woman Aviators worked very nicely.

Thanks for sharing!
