Learning with iPad - I was There in History (with Keynote)

Context

This sharing is connected to a previous sharing of putting ourselves into history footage. While we can do this with iMovie, we can also achieve this with Keynote and the simple but powerful feature called Keynote Live Video.

The general idea is the same; putting ourselves into the context of history and grasping the nuances and possible meanings when recreating the moment.

Preparation and flow

As with the previous sharing, you will need to:

  1. focus on a historical moment
  2. get ready historical footage of the moment
  3. have a student ready to reenact the scene

For this instance, we will be inserting media into a blank keynote slide.

  1. First insert your historical footage
  2. Next tap on format option (paintbrush)
  3. Then add and format your image.
  4. Finally, add your live video through the media icon and adjust options like remove background.

Have students go ahead and create the various slides with their live videos in different positions.

You will need to use the screen record option to record this new video. Make sure to turn on the mic.

The advantage of this method is the ease and speed in which you can quickly insert images, resize the proportion of the elements and placements and ultimately create more than one format e.g. video, gift, presentation.

Possible Extension

As a challenge, have the children do away with the historical footage and recreate the slides based on their needs to reflect what they want to say. This is editing a video without the technical bits.
