Learning with iPad - "Tallest point in Singapore" with Live Videos in Keynote

Context

magine having yourself immersed in a backdrop while interacting with the world you are exploring/explaining. This activity let’s you explore that with just an iPad and Keynote.

Using Live Video and Magic Move, features in Keynote, I can easily immerse my live video image into a slide and do a quick comparison of what are the highest points in Singapore. While this template is used by the teacher (myself), it would be great to get students to make use of the features and create a explainer with the background shifting and morphing in motion to show the sense of height.

Preparation and Flow

Download the attached Keynote file, and make modifications to the topic, position of your live video and animations to boot.

Then add transitions between slide to instantly move objects from one position in a slide, to a different position in the next slide. Take note that it must be the same object. Size and position changes are okay.

Start the slide show. Do enable "Start Live VIdeo".

Position yourself in the best possible place to show are you are immersed in this deck. For my, I would stand and point at the hill graphic as I shift from slide to slide to dramatically show the variance height and size.

This becomes a great way to create a sense of movement and narrative as we explain concepts to our students.

Do it the other way and have students create short explainers/illustrations like that through Live Video and Magic Move.

Possible Extension

Consider recording the presentation as you do so into a video, which can be put up on the Learning Management System like SLS, giving you more value and accessibility in resource access and use.
