How to Create a Puppet Show in Keynote!

What's your guess on how puppet shows became so popular?

If your guess has something to do with its simplicity, accessibility, or portability then you're on the right track. We at Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley strive to bring in excitement in digital creation. This lesson explores creating with voiceover and animation using Keynote!

To facilitate this lesson, begin by asking questions on the importance of voice acting in shows (ex. tone) and reasons why puppet shows could've gained popularity (ex. transportable).

By now, you can instruct students to create their very own puppet story. Have them consider the setting, amount of characters, and the storyline. You can help out in deciding this together for students who need more guidance.

On the template, you will find curtains to "set the stage" and a collection of characters that youth can use to tell their stories. Demonstrate how to use the template by copy and pasting their desired characters while encouraging to use the crayon menu to create a unique background.

Lastly the piece that pulls it all together, how to add in their voiceover.

Nearing the end of the lesson, lead the kids through the exporting process. Have them present to one another the class and then answer a few reflection questions to debrief.

Have fun creating!
