@Dragon_Coach and I met at ADE institute in 2023 and have been working on compiling lessons for high school teachers using MacBooks or iPads in class. @Dragon_Coach uses MacBooks, and I use iPads, and in our collaboration, we realized that small adjustments can be made to apply the lessons in each environment. Over the next 30 days, we’ll post one lesson idea each day with tips on how to make it work in either environment you are teaching in.
High School Learning with Apple #27: AR Wall Framing
Building a wall takes time and money. This lesson let’s students show their understanding without cutting a single piece of lumber—that's the power of augmented reality!
In this lesson, students use the app Reality Composer and build in AR to master the art of wall framing. They start with a review of framing basics, discussing the purpose of each component, from studs and plates to headers and cripples. Then, with iPads, students will Build a step by step tutorial of how to frame a wall. Attention to scale and industry standards with the Reality Composer measurement tools.
As an extension, students can also build corners, framing openings for windows and doors, and even show the installation of bracing. This hands-on, virtual experience will provide a safe and interactive way to show theIr understanding of wall framing before moving on to real-world construction.
