Build Classroom Community with Back to School Bingo!

Back-to-school bingo is an excellent way to build community in a classroom. It fosters a sense of connection and belonging among students by encouraging them to share personal information and discover common interests.

By interacting and learning about each other, students develop empathy and respect for their classmates' diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ultimately, building a strong classroom community is essential for creating a positive and productive learning environment, and this free, downloadable back-to-school bingo is a simple yet effective tool to achieve this goal.

Steps:

  1. Download the FREE Back to School Bingo card template (linked below) or edit it to better suit your student population!
  2. Distribute Cards: Share the bingo card with players through Apple Classroom or other learning management system. Every student will need their own copy of the bingo card.
  3. Explain the Rules: Clearly communicate the goal of the game: to fill a row, column, or diagonal with photos of the specified items.
  4. Start the Game: Announce the start of the game.
  5. Take Photos: Players use their cameras to capture images that match the items on their bingo cards.
  6. Winning Condition: The first player to complete a row, column, or diagonal line of photos wins the game.
  7. Optional: For added fun, players can share their photos with the group.

Tips:

  • For added challenge, set a time limit for finding and photographing items.
  • For younger players, simplify the bingo card with larger images and fewer items.
  • Use a digital platform to create a shared bingo card and track player progress.

This game is a fun and engaging way to encourage creativity, observation, and digital literacy.

I absolutely love this idea! I used your template; however, I changed the card to addition problems. I believe that this is a great activity, not only for students to getting to know each other, but also for math review! Great idea!!
