APL Live Session Summary: Promote Student Privacy and Safety with iPad

Student and Teacher safety is central to ensuring an effective device strategy in any school. Apple iPad embraces this value with an array of built-in systems that promote safe learning environments and efficient school-wide management.

This post recaps a session run by me (Julia Parker from Auckland New Zealand) and Matt Richards (@RichardsAPLS_Adelaide) from Adelaide South Australia. These sessions focused on student privacy and safety when using iPads in a learning environment. We explored various features to achieve this.

• ⚙️ Apple IDs: We explored two approaches to AppleIDs for a school environment
• Managed Apple IDs: Created and controlled by schools through Apple School Manager (Apple Managed Apple IDs Overview: https://www.apple.com/education/docs/overview_of_managed_appleid.pdf)
• Family Apple IDs: Created by families for users under the age of 13 (Apple Family Sharing: https://www.apple.com/au/families/)
• 🔐 Privacy Settings: Participants explored family-controlled privacy settings for student Apple IDs.

• 🦺 Safe Browsing: We explored the built-in safe browsing features in Safari.
