Hello! I’m Paul, an Apple Learning Coach in Havelock, North Carolina. We use Mosyle to manage devices. I’m lucky to work as an Instructional Technology Facilitator which gives me a few ‘keys to the [tech] kingdom’ when it comes to tech (i.e. Apple School Manager, Mosyle (but not as an admin), etc).
I understand the pros of the math notes functions—the iPad solving and/or suggesting answers to math problems—but in our elementary math classes we want it blocked. I figured out how to, rather, how to get my district tech team to disable math notes which removes it from Notes and Freeform:
But we soon discovered that calculator/math notes could still pop-up and suggest answers in spotlight (when you pull down on the iPad Home Screen to search and type in a math problem) and you can ask Siri the answer. If the goal is for them to not be able to type the problem and get an answer, I am assuming you would be fine with them not having access to the Calculator app altogether.
Mosyle > management > Allowed/Blocked Apps > Blocked Apps > "Add new profile" > Name the profile and add the calculator application which can be found under "native apps".
You could also disable Siri which will be found under restrictions.
I would probably set these restrictions up only for the grade level it is affecting.
Hope this helps!
